Ain’t a Housewife a Domestic Goddess???

            If you thought that building a temple for Khushboo in some remote village of TamilNadu is heights of frenzying fans –think again! PPl the world over are tuning in to Desperate Housewives just because the First Lady of the US of A mentioned it. (quote “I am married to the President of the United States and here is our typical evening. Nine o'clock, Mr. Excitement here is sound asleep, and I am watching Desperate Housewives. With Lynne Cheney. Ladies and gentleman, I am a desperate housewife. I mean if those women on that show think they're desperate, they ought to be with George.” unquote)
But the sad and true fact remains that Yours truly is guilty of the same but I would rather blame it on the boredom of a Friday night.
           I have a repu of not being very sociable with my neighbours – well can’t blame them since I have only 24 hrs to juggle between my work, home and cooking so the spare time is spent in front of my laptop, books and on the phone (not necessarily in that order) but the aunties are as saccharine sweet as any sugarcane field. They ask me if I want help with the servant, driver etc etc so that they could happily approach me for borrowing that odd cup of sugar or some green chillies.
         Watching DH made me wonder if there are hidden elements of Susan or Lynette in any of them but they all seem very docile to me –the types who devote their time in kitty parties and their children. Since I have the honor of being the only working woman in my apartment complex (if I don’t count Asha who has a home-office) they suggested holding a kitty on a Saturday so that I cud join them; now a kitty is as strange to me as a blue movie; which is - I keep hearing ‘bout it a lot but never ever been to one and also try to avoid it like dengue fever.
           A housewife is an alien concept to me – no, I mean my Mom is one but I personally can’t relate to that concept. It is not about the money, it is also not about the Status –it is about having a life, individuality and identity. To learn to appreciate the aesthetics of life beyond the four walls but then ultimately itz each to their own.
            And these days there r also occurrences of house-husbands (also mentioned in Prey) – who have proved that they could manage the household chores as well as any woman…
            Coming to the serial, which has rocked US these days, DH is a product you would get if u cross any of Ms.Kekta Kapoor’s serials with CID.
The characters seem so melodramatic and immature- rather made-up and larger than life.
The petty jealousies over-exaggerated and the women really desperate; so
if itz Friday night and you don’t have any agenda then …Please do not tune in to Desperate Housewives. It is much better to watch the re-runs of Friends any day!

Lol! I want to be a housewife some day!!(Or maybe I'm tired of getting up and coming to work every morning or maybe I just need a long break!)

I like Desperate Housewives, just bcoz it's major timepass! But since you said you'd rather watch re-runs of Friends and I'm the biggest Friends fan out there, I agree with you! :-)

i beg to disgree for once. DH is definitely better than ekta's never ending dramas and Cid.

I do watch it once in a while, but atleast it gives a true reflection of american society ( thats my person opinion ), while EK soaps with god knows how many marriages and deaths and vamps n heros r so so so unrealistic.

BUT i agree - FRIENDS rule..better than any other serial, any day, any times.

I had no clue DH was being telecast bac there forget the fact that it was so popular. I personally have never caught an episode but from I gather it is a guilty pleasure for most housewives here who seek that extra thrill in their otherwise mundane lives.

@truthfairy
yaa sometimes we do wish that we wud njoy if we stay at home but believe me staying at home after working is worse than being a housewife.DH can b TP but somehow i tend to get slightly irritated.

@vicky
perhaps it is the episode i watched, the way Susan tells Gabrielle "I'm going for a date tonite , this is FYI" found it quite immature.

@rohan
yes it has become a rage even in India n not ONLY by the housewives.

@zombiee

Hey Swathi, Thanks for visiting!

and like you I also thought Kitty parties were something 'bad' and to be avoided..till my parents joined one! Now at least they have a social life and a good social circle of retired ppl, who gift one of the members something every month..

A goddess indeed. Its easier to run the govt than the house. ALien to most this devi holds the key to liberation. To find in her all feminine, as quoted from "Neethisaram" -
Karyeshu mantri, Karuneshu dasi,
Roopeshu Lakshmi, Kshameshu dharitri,
Sneheshu matha, Shayaneshu vaishya,
Shatkarma nari, Kuladharma pathni.
Heavy stuff eh! but super true.

HOUSE WIFE IS A DOMESTIC GODDESS. I DO LIKE THE VERSE FROM NEETHISARAM. IF WOMEN SATISFY THE VERSE, THE FAMILY LIFE WILL BE VERY LONG LASTING! A WOMEN CAN EITHER MAKE OR RUIN A HOUSE. SHE PLAYS A LION'S ROLE IN FAMILY LIFE. THE FUTURE OF A FAMILY IN THE HANDS OF A WIFE, AND NOT IN THE HANDS OF A HUSBAND.

ramesh raju said...

the verse from Neethisaram
"Karyeshu Dasi, Karaneshu Manthri;
Bhojeshu Mata, Shayaneshu Rambha;
Roopeshu lakshmi, Kshamayeshu Dharitri;Satkarma Nari, Kuladharma Pathni"
is a praise of women. A Woman plays a lion's role in family life. She can be regarded as a domestic goddess. Men are impatient, agressive and inconsistant by nature unlike that of women. So god created women to be submissive, consistant and with beautiful mind to balance the harmony of family life. It is a fact that a family of responsible husband and a submissive wife will flourish. Women are adored in the society if they satisfy the above verse in their family lives. But i am sure that boyishterous women and tomboys are not eligible to marry. Because they cannot satisfy the above verses. However a wise woman builds up her house and a boisterous woman ruins her house. Modern girls could not make up their homes. This is because they fight for their independance and rights and they are feeling guilty to be homemakers. Some girls feel that they are kitchen rabbits. Hence they getting divorced with in few days of marriage.They should realize that it is their duty to follow the above verses. It is the duty of a woman to preserve her purity and respect. Because women in India are regarded as goddesses. They should not behave like tomboys. Instead they should cultivate submissiveness and should preserve tradition and culture. They should realize that submissiveness is the greatest jewelry for a woman.
